What To Look For
Match the standard you're training for
A 12-mile / 35 lb dry standard means training at 35–45 lb. Build the load over months, not weeks.
Frame sheet and plate pocket are non-negotiable
Above 30 lb, load carriage becomes a structural problem. A frame sheet keeps the weight off your lumbar spine.
Hydration you can drink on the move
A 3L bladder with a bite valve beats stopping for a bottle every mile on a timed march.
FAQ
What weight is a standard ruck march?
Commonly 35 lb dry over 12 miles, but check your unit or course standard.
Boots or trail runners for ruck marches?
Follow your standard. If footwear is unrestricted, most ruckers move faster in cushioned trail shoes.
